“The best waves I’ve ever seen in Peru” — Jonathan Gubbins
Last year, we posted an edit called Jonathan Gubbins is One Well Barreled Human — and he remains well barreled, as evidenced by this recent session at a fickle, secret sandbar in Peru. “This was was September 28th, during the strongest southwest swell that hit Peru all season,” explains Gubbins. “The whole edit was recorded in a two-hour window in the morning. The spot had the sandbanks set perfectly — the day before, I went and checked it and saw some perfect, tiny drainers kinda shaped like what I’ve seen and surfed in Skeleton Bay. I slept in the area, with filmer Kirfa Lens as the place is kinda isolated. When I woke up, I saw the best waves I’ve ever seen in Peru. It was heavy — a lot of current, and the end section was on completely dry sand. This was the first time I surfed the spot I’d seen some pictures, but never like that. This session was by far my best one in Peru.”
